Some bands I've found out about recently, mostly through KCRW, the awesome public radio station out here:
Fitz and the Tantrums are Sharon Jones-esque new soul with a groovy sound. Plus they all wear suits. Classy.
Also, here's a band from Montreal called Patrick Watson and the Wooden Arms. I just heard them last night; they describe themselves as storytellers, and have a big influence from Debussy and the impressionists. Kind of andrew bird-esque? Amazing music.
